Dr. Rulla Al-Haideri has been awarded the highly competitive and prestigious Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). This federal award supports outstanding early career researchers in the natural sciences and engineering. Granted through the Civil and Industrial Engineering review committee, the award recognizes the strength of Rulla’s research program and its potential to advance transportation safety. Her research examines how road users perceive risk and make decisions in complex traffic environments, with the goal of improving safety on urban streets. Her work combines behavioural modelling with classical and quantum artificial intelligence to better understand road user decision-making and support safer infrastructure, operations, and policy.
